The KS5 case sets with AprilTags were specially designed for the precise capture of 3D point clouds with mobile devices.

 

Each marker has a unique ID and is recognized in real time by the Dot3D software . The app automatically calculates the exact position and orientation of the tags in space, which significantly improves the accuracy of the 3D scans.

 

In Dot3D, AprilTags are used primarily to optimize measurement accuracy , for loop closure (closing scan loops), and to link multiple scans. If individual AprilTags are also measured tachymetrically, accuracies in the range of a few millimeters are possible. 



 

The application is simple: The AprilTags are distributed within the scan area, while the Dot3D app automatically detects them and uses them to optimize the point cloud. Especially with large or complex scenes, the AprilTags ensure reliable referencing and minimize errors caused by drift or overlap.
